The House Collective, a Swire Hotels brand, has revealed plans to launch its first luxury hotel outside of China.
The not-yet-named Tokyo hotel—a partnership with Tokyu Corporation and Tokyu Department Store—is due to open in 2027 as part of an upcoming mixed-use Shibuya Upper West Project. In addition to the House Collective property, the 1.3 million-square-foot development designed by Snøhetta will feature upscale retail, luxury residences, and cultural attractions.
“We have imagined a new 24-hour vision for Shibuya with this hybrid urban development that combines landmark and landform—a bridge between the city and the streets that extends itself into the skyline—connecting Shibuya to Shoto,” Robert Greenwood, Snøhetta partner and managing director of Asia. “The design is formed as a single gesture, moving from the horizontal ground plane to the vertical skyline, symbolizing the energy of the area in a single stroke. It is an homage to the duality of Tokyo—a modern city that is steeped in tradition.”
