The Williamsburg Hotel has celebrated the first of its staggered openings in Brooklyn with the introduction of its 150 guestrooms and lobby bar. The eight-story property from Heritage Equity Partners features designs from London-based Michaelis Boyd of MIchaelis Boyd Studio.
The hotel channels the neighborhood’s industrial roots, with a façade from local architecture firm HWKN featuring brick, glass, and Corten steel. A dramatic staircase leads to the elegant and cozy bar area. The entry experience is punctuated with an installation from street artist Eric Rieger, comprised of several thousand strands of multicolored yarn crowning the lobby bar. Additional highlights include custom toile-inspired wallpaper designed by Mike Diamond of the Beastie Boys depicting idyllic Brooklyn scenes and figures from Nathan’s Famous hot dogs to local Hasidic Jewish communities and the Notorious B.I.G.
The property comprises five different guestroom configurations ranging from 220 square feet to the 550-square-foot suite, which enjoys panoramic skyline views, a seating area, and a private terrace. Featuring custom furnishings from Michaelis Boyd Studio, each room includes floor-to-ceiling windows and oak floors with design scheme varying from whitewashed timber walls to deeply distressed gray finishes.
Adjacent to the lobby, the grand oval bar at Harvey restaurant will be framed with a vibrant yarn installation made from thousands of strands of thread. Led by Adam Leonti, the eatery will continue the agricultural first developed by the chef at his recent pop-up Brooklyn Bread Lab. A private hotel bar is also on deck, with subterranean bar the Cellar coming later this year, and the replica Watertower bar—a nod to the block’s former wooden watertower factory—an al fresco pop-up eatery, and a rooftop pool, bar, and café arriving this spring. Accommodating up to 400 guests, the neighborhood’s first grand ballroom will boast 30-foot-tall ceilings.
