Johannesburg-based designer Tristan du Plessis crafted another marvel in the vibrant inner city of Cape Town. Spreading across two landmark buildings that evoke Art Deco and Edwardian influences respectively, Gorgeous George was overhauled by locally based firm Urbane Citizen Architecture.
From steel window frames to concrete beams, the raw, urban bones of the buildings are accentuated against a bold palette and offset by abundant greenery, complement du Plessis’ modern African ethos. Victorian elements are reinterpreted through locally sourced artwork and furnishings that aim to instill a sense of history and place. All 36 guestrooms are wrapped in a palette of blues, whites, and mountainside greens contrasting the industrial flair of the interior, while a pool and terrace crown the property as a green oasis set against the backdrop of the city.
