The team behind Tokyo’s hybrid TRUNK (HOTEL) is set to introduce a new holistic lodging concept next month. Conceived as a townhouse hotel, TRUNK(HOUSE) is poised to debut in the city’s historic Kagurazaka neighborhood within a two-story, 70-year-old former geisha house. The space will be crafted by the in-house TRUNK Atelier team, in collaboration with local interior design studio, Tripster.
A stone, genkan-style entryway will lead to an environment rife with bespoke artwork and details like metal-framed leather sofas and low coffee tables that juxtapose midcentury light fixtures. Tatami mats and leather floor cushions will be installed beside paper artwork from Chiaki Hirano. Gray mortar walls will harmonize with dark terrazzo floors, while decorative stained glass windows will pay homage to the history of the building.
TRUNK(HOUSE) will also be home to a tearoom outfitted with tatami floors and a sunken irori fireplace. A small disco concept will be featured alongside a contemporary bathhouse endowed with cypress tubs and ukiyo-e artwork.
