The latest Tryp by Wyndham property has arrived in the newly revitalized downtown of Newark, New Jersey. The 101-room Tryp by Wyndham Newark Downtown pays tribute to the legacy of its historic address with an Art Deco-style design spearheaded by designer Blanche Garcia.
Original, historic elements like the mosaic tile floor have been preserved and further accentuated with modern details. The commuter culture of Newark is also referenced with transit-themed cartoon wallpaper, a laser-cut grid of Newark, and an Art Deco copperleaf artwork that highlights a variety of transportation methods. Additional moments of whimsy include murals of Newark natives such as Frankie Valli and Queen Latifah, royal chairs with 3D crowns, and an optical illusion mural in the lobby men’s room activated only when photographed. Local painter Tim Murphy and Shaun Killman of HGTV fame also collaborated on the human-sized lightbulb sculpture that pays homage to the local roots of Thomas Edison.
