The TWA Hotel at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York has topped out. Designed by Brooklyn-based practice Lubrano Ciavarra Architects, the hotel will serve as a fixture of the restoration of the airport’s existing Eero Saarinen-designed TWA Flight Center. It is expected to open in early 2019.
As part of Beyer Blinder Belle’s adaptive reuse endeavors for the terminal, the hotel will house 505 guestrooms, 50,000 square feet of meeting and event space, and a variety of F&B options, including a nightlife concept. Water fountains will punctuate the arrival experience, leading to the lobby housed within the Flight Center. At 200,000 square feet, it is anticipated to become the largest hotel lobby in the world. It will also be home to a Jet Age and midcentury modern museum that will chronicle the era during which midcentury modern thrived.
