Designed by Kuala Lumpur’s Design Wilkes and Singapore-based architecture firm Eco-ID, the W Goa has debuted along Vagator Beach in India as the brand’s 50th global property. The opening brings W closer to its goal to expand its portfolio to 75 properties by 2020.
The 160-room hotel is nestled between fecund jungles and the idyllic coastline, and overlooks the Arabian Sea across 25 acres. Set against the backdrop of a 500-year-old Portuguese Fort, the hotel features rustic designs that embrace the regional spirit.
The arrival experience is punctuated with unframed doors and artwork from locally based artist Subodh Kerkar that references the lunar phases as a nod to Goa’s full moon party culture. Adorned with Capiz shells, the reception pods are installed before a mural from Indian artist M. Narayan. Rich colors and fabrics are featured across the property, with guestrooms embracing a psychedelic appearance with purple and blue hues blending together for a kaleidoscopic effect. Each accommodation features a chandelier and a bathroom mirror in the shape of the Bodhi Leaf.
The hotel is also home to roughly 50,000 square feet of function and meeting space, which will be fully unveiled by the end of the year. The expansive 4,160-square-foot Great Room will be joined by two studios, ranging from 440 to 540 square feet. The 4,500-square-foot outdoor venue, the Horizon, is sharply landscaped, and the 5,800-square-foot Backyard provides additional space just below the Chapora Fort.
The subterranean Spa by Clarins comprises 14,000 square feet that includes eight treatment rooms, a heated vitality pool, steam room, sauna, and oxygen room. Onsite F&B options include the Pan-Asian concept Spice Traders, the Kitchen Table, the signature Living Room and WOOBAR, and the poolside Rock Pool.
