W Hotels Worldwide has expanded its presence in Australia with the recent launch of the W Brisbane. Overlooking the Brisbane River, the new hotel balances urban style and modern design with a cheeky, distinctively Aussie angle through a design from Australian design Nic Graham & Associates. The design is an homage to its coastal setting, complete with custom furnishings and design elements that reference Australia’s indigenous roots and colonial heritage.
A staircase crafted from timber river reeds welcomes visitors to the Welcome Desk and Living Room, which are adorned with earth tones, sedimentary layers, frayed edges, and raw beauty reminiscent of the Australian outback. Artwork from a slew of Australian artists further punctate the interior along with intricate rugs and greenery-inspired details. Benchtops and bar faces are upgraded with forms that recall curvilinear shapes and nearby waterworn clifftops. All 312 rooms, including 32 luxe suites, are designed with a white wall inspired by VJ wall panels typical of Queenslander homes, while the Extreme Wow suite on the 33rd floor boasts a backdrop of panoramic views.
Three distinct dining venues will be featured onsite, including the vibrant but casual Three Blue Ducks; the daytime lounge and evening cocktail bar the Living Room; and the signature Wet Deck rooftop bar. The hotel also hosts more than 11,800 square feet of event space, including the 6,400-square-foot Great Room. Reminiscent of the night sky of the Queensland outback with 260 twinkling ceiling lights, the Great Room is equipped with LED wall panels. Additional meeting rooms such as the Strategy room will be fixed with floor-to-ceiling windows and private balconies.
