W Hotels Worldwide recently made its Netherlands debut with the opening of W Amsterdam—owned by Europe Hotels | Private Collection.
Located near Dam Square and the Royal Palace, the property offers the city’s first rooftop pool experience, along with the Duchess and Mr. Porter eateries.
The 238-room hotel spans two buildings that were repurposed by Office WINHOV and Baranowitz Kronenberg Architects, in collaboration with several local designers. One structure formerly housed the Telephone Exchange and now offers 172 guestrooms; the other was home to KAS Bank and will feature 66 rooms when it debuts next year. The buildings feature contemporary elements inspired by their historic past.
After the bank building unveils its guestrooms, the hotel will have a total of 21 suites, three WOW suites, and two Extreme WOW suites (the W brand’s version of a presidential suite), which will span an estimated 1,969 square feet and include an open-plan bathroom, a hot tub, walk-in wardrobe, and a round bed with views of the Royal Palace.
Rather than a traditional lobby, guests check in at the Exchange building’s sixth-floor, rooftop W Lounge, where four outdoor terraces provide 360-degree city views.
Amenities include a fitness center, spa, and the 7,534-square-foot XBANK exhibition gallery space—to debut early next year.
