Marriott International has announced the opening of the seventh W Hotels property in Greater China. The W Xi’an has opened as the W brand’s largest unit in the Asia Pacific market, paying homage to the region’s rich cultural history through a modern design.
Located in the Qujiang District, the hotel totals more than 860,000 square feet in the shape of a “W.” Hong Kong-based firm AB Concept designed the property to reinterpret Xi’an’s roots as the home of the Zhou, Qin, Han, Sui, and Tang dynasties. A large-scale multimedia art installation comprising digital fragments of Tang Dynasty architecture greets visitors at the hotel’s garden entrance. The Living Room is outfitted with 55-foot-tall ceilings, illuminated curved fixtures and sweeping partitions, each inspired by the famous palace wall and historic depictions of the Silk Road. Artwork of acrobatic pottery figurines punctuate the interior, a tribute to ancient times.
In all 385 guestrooms and suites, large-scale artwork injects a colorful allusion to the Tang Dynasty. Influenced by the dynasty’s diplomatic gifting, a peach motif adorns guestroom linens, while the Extreme Wow suite is adorned with corrugated walls painted a deep shade of orange-red, a nod to the Silk Road.
Endowed with a striking, satin vortex embedded into its ceiling, all-day dining concept Wei is anchored with several show kitchens, while the signature restaurant Yen comprises 11 separate rooms clad with Tang Dynasty accents. Rounding out onsite F&B options, FU provides an engaging hotpot experience, while WOOBAR offers a laidback social space by day and a stylish lounge by night. Brand signatures like the indoor Wet pool and outdoor Wet deck are featured along with the Fit gym and Away spa. More than 43,000 square feet of meeting and event space is housed across the property as well.
