Marriott International has opened its first hotel under its flagship Marriott Hotels brand in Haikou in China’s Hainan Province.
The 386-room Haikou Marriott Hotel joins three other Marriott International properties in the province. Haikou, the provincial capital of Hainan Province in southern China, is known as China’s International Tourism Island.
“At Marriott International we are very proud to be launching our 73rd Marriott International Hotel across six brands in China, taking the total number of properties in China under Marriott Hotels brand to 17,” says Henry Lee, greater China COO for Marriott International. “This occasion also marks our very first hotel in Haikou and the first Marriott International business hotel to open in Hainan Province, continuing our rapid expansion throughout China.”
Irvine, California-based WATG drew inspiration from the country’s cultural heritage to create the eight buildings within the hotel premises, blending traditional oriental architecture with the natural and scenic surroundings for a Zen-like environment.
Haikou Marriott Hotel offers three restaurants and four lounges and bars. Island Bistro all day dining is designed with a resort-like feel, while Man Ho restaurant serves authentic Cantonese flavors and houses 10 private dining rooms. The Big Fish bar features a 360-degree open kitchen, and the Helicon Bar & Music Room reinterprets the classic hotel bar compete with four private karaoke rooms, two mahjong rooms, and a billiard table.
