The Condado Vanderbilt Hotel has reopened in San Juan, Puerto Rico’s Condado District.
The second stage of the hotel’s revival features redesigned guestrooms and suites, a spa with Puerto Rico’s first hammam, two pool lounges with butler service, and a second international restaurant helmed by chef Juan Jose Cuevas.
Originally built in 1919 by Frederick William Vanderbilt, the historic hotel is in the final stages of a $200 million revitalization. The reimagined 319 guestrooms, including 108 suites, take inspiration from the hotel’s oceanfront setting and eclectic history.
The rooms, designed by Dallas-based Wilson Associates, will be marked by a natural palette, carpeting inspired by ocean tides, light terracotta colored walls, and dark wood-toned furniture with brass accents. The 63 Commodore and 42 Biltmore suites, situated in the hotel’s two newly constructed suite towers, will resemble private residences with nine-foot ceilings, European-style kitchens with granite countertops, and African mahogany wood detailing. Carrera marble floors, dove gray walls, and neutral-toned furniture are accented with artwork and touches of turquoise and yellow.
Envisioned by designer Jorge Rossello, the West tower pool area will boast a 200-square-foot mirrored pool with a waterfall, surrounded by chaise lounges and private cabanas. The West tower’s secondary, infinity-edge pool will be located at the edge of the Atlantic, while the East tower pool lounge will feature three smaller pools. A 10,000-square-foot luxury spa and fitness facility, designed by Rosello’s locally based firm, will lie directly in front of the West tower pool.
The secondary dining outpost, also designed by Rossello, will resemble a beach-chic, 1950s-style restaurant. Situated next to the West tower pool, the open layout will include both indoor and outdoor seating areas.
