The 2012 Hospitality Design Exposition & Conference (HD Expo, Las Vegas, May 15-17) wrapped up another successful show, where attendance was up 10 percent over last year. Highlights of the premier hospitality design event include:
Keynote speaker Adam Tihany: Tihany, in conversation with Hospitality Design (HD) editor in chief Michael Adams, entertained the audience with his insight and humor about restaurant design. Each concept begins with a gourmet meal prepared by the star chef and the ideas develop around the ingredients, aroma, taste, and emotions from the dishes.
Radical Innovation in Hospitality: The winner of the $10,000 grand prize is Koi, a bridge-like concept linking city dynamics and urban regeneration to create public spaces, by Marc Mussche of MM Planners from Nanterre, France.
Most Innovative Product: Specially selected products attracted attendees to the all new Innovation Pavilion where they voted for their favorites as Most Innovative Product of HD Expo 2012. The first place winner is PolArt’s PLAsTIC, the most unusual outdoor furniture: a single piece that has been de-molded as a whole, including the seat back and cushions. Runner up is Recludo’s Time-Controlled Fingerprint Access System. This revolutionary technology saves time and offers secure hassle-free access at all times for all occupants of the room.
