Salt Lake City-based design firm 3form has welcomed Mike Johnson as director of sustainability. Johnson brings 18 years of experience in environmental services to the firm.
“Sustainability is part of our core mission,” says Talley Goodson, CEO of 3Form. “In his new role, Mike Johnson will provide direction and fresh energy to initiatives like Path to Zero and Full Circle, which are related to corporate environmental and social responsibility in a manufacturing environment.”
With the Path to Zero initiative, the company has diverted close to 100 percent waste from landfills; introduced high-design products with up to 100 percent post-consumer recycled content; reduced its effective carbon footprint through energy efficiency measures and Renewable Energy Credits (RECs); and helped develop product transparency in the marketplace.
The Full Circle program creates jobs for artisans in remote areas around the world by collaboratively developing products. Many of 3formʼs Varia EcoResin collections feature the work of international craftsmen who benefit from 3formʼs community-strengthening initiatives.
“Our social responsibility commitments shine through the Full Circle product line and program where we’ve created opportunities for meaningful employment and benefits to disadvantaged artisans around the globe,” says Johnson.

To build upon these successes, Johnsonʼs initial objectives include advancing 3form’s work on product transparency; finding ways to make progress towards the goal of carbon neutrality by 2017; significantly increasing the recycling rate; and engaging staff in adopting sustainability through relevant education and community action.
