AAA has named 16 hotels as its 2010 Five Diamond Award winners. Florida and Nevada top the list for new winners this year, each with three additional Five Diamond lodgings. Florida properties include the Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale; Four Seasons Resort, Palm Beach; and Acqualina Resort and Spa on the Beach in Sunny Isles Beach. Taking top honors in Nevada are the Ritz-Carlton Lake Las Vegas in Henderson, as well as Encore Las Vegas and the Palazzo Resort Hotel Casino.
Mexico gained three Five Diamond hotels with the St. Regis Punta Mita Resort in Punta Mita, in addition to Rosewood Mayakoba and the Mandarin Oriental Riviera Maya in Playa Del Carmen.
California added the Resort at Pelican Hill in Newport Coast and the Grand Del Mar in San Diego, while New York boasts the Plaza Hotel and the Pierre New York-A Taj Hotel as Five Diamond winners. Meanwhile, Massachusetts welcomed Mandarin Oriental, Boston to the list, while the Ritz-Carlton, Dallas marked Texas’s newest addition to the list. In addition, New Mexico gained its first Five Diamond Award hotel with Encantado, An Auberge Resort in Santa Fe.
Dining establishments did not fare so well. Seven restaurants—six of which closed within the last year—were removed from the list.
