Accor is developing three hotels in Myanmar (Union of Burma)-an MGallery hotel in Naypyidaw, a Novotel Yangon Max, and a Novotel Mandalay Mingalar-that represent the group’s 18th market in the region.
The MGallery hotel-planned for Myanmar’s capital city of Naypyidaw-will feature 168 guestrooms, five meeting spaces, a cigar bar, and two dining outlets. The new build is expected to open this year close to the city hall and the Gem Museum.
Expected to open by the end of 2013, the 366-room Novotel Yangon Max will include a 10,793-square-foot banquet room, eight meeting rooms, a swimming pool, and a wellness center. Among the dining options will be a rooftop French restaurant and a bar.
Scheduled to open in 2015, the 280-room Novotel Mandalay Mingalar is slated for a location near Mandalay Palace and Maha Muni Pagoda. Two restaurants, two bars, a ballroom, and four meeting rooms will be included among the amenities, as well as a swimming pool and wellness centre.
“We are excited to announce the signing of three new hotels in Myanmar-the first of which will open this year-marking Accor’s return to Myanmar,” says Michael Issenberg, chairman and COO for Accor Asia-Pacific. “Southeast Asia has long been a focus market for Accor, and as the country’s tourism industry develops, we see significant growth potential for international hotel operators with long-term experience in the region. These three developments represent yet another step towards our goal of operating 700 hotels in Asia Pacific by 2015.”
