Atlanta-based ai3 has been selected to design three new Hotel Indigo properties throughout the southeast U.S. The hotels will blend references to each location’s culture and historical influences. “The intimacy of hotel design is pushing boundaries,” says Lucy Aiken Johnson, partner at ai3. “It’s no longer enough to simply give a nod to a particular local design style. The challenge today is how to design an entire guest experience that’s built upon local influences and neighborhood savvy.”
The firm will work its magic at the following properties:
Hotel Oxford, By Hotel Indigo in downtown Oxford, Mississippi, will be inspired by the legacy of Oxford Square and its rich culture of literature and music. “We want to create a place that immerses guests in everything that makes Oxford so unique,” says Luke Chamblee, president, Chamblee Hospitality Group. “ai3’s ability to weave history and culture into modern design will make Hotel Oxford unlike any other in the region.”
Reopening in early 2013 following a renovation, Hotel Indigo Downtown Nashville will take cues from its location in the Printer’s Alley neighborhood, from the actual printing process to the area’s prominence in the 1800s as a speakeasy. “People don’t associate Nashville with that legacy, but it’s a strong one that we want to articulate in the new design of Hotel Indigo Downtown Nashville,” says Bob Winston, president of Winston Hospitality.
Hotel Indigo Sarasota in Florida is undergoing a two-year redesign that will incorporate area’s cultural and artistic influences. “ai3’s ability to tell stories through design will help us articulate this across the entire guest experience,” says Leslie Power, the hotel’s general manager.
