Amanresorts‘ newest, the Aman Canal Grande, will open on June 1st on Venice’s Grand Canal, coinciding with the 2013 Venice Biennale art exhibition.
The centerpiece of the 24-suite hotel is the 16th century Palazzo Papadopoli. Originally commissioned by the Coccina family of Bergamo and designed by architect Gian Giacomo dé Grigi, the palazzo has two gardens accessible to guests. The Garden Terrace boasts one of the few private gardens fronting the canal-where guests can dine al fresco-while a second private garden offers a secluded wooded area.
Each of the 24 suites features a minimalist design complementing the palazzo’s landmarked frescoes and reliefs. Take the Sansovino suite, boasting an original fireplace designed by Venetian architect Jacopo d’Antonio Sansovino, and the Alcove Tiepolo suite, which features a Chinese-style painted sitting room and bedroom ceiling by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo.
From the reception hall, a two-story staircase leads to the dining room on the piano nobile-a floor designed in the late 19th century by Michelangelo Guggenheim, a leading exponent of the Neo-Renaissance and Rococo styles. The fourth level at will feature the salon, a library, a game room, and a private events space. An elevator provides access to an intimate roof terrace with views of the Rialto Bridge, the Church of Santa Maria Salute, and the Campanile.
