Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants has begun renovations at Amara Resort & Spa in Sedona, Arizona. The project, completed by Ave Bradley, Kimpton’s vice president of design, includes the 100 guestrooms, common areas, and restaurant and is expected to complete by the end of June.
The idea of “modern native” inspires the design and infuses the craftsmanship and traditions of the Hopi and Navajo tribes that are indigenous to Northern Arizona, such as basket-making, rope-weaving, rain sticks, and turquoise colors. Pulling from the surrounding foliage and the desert flowers, the redesigned palette boasts hints of green, aubergine, bright marigold, and hot fuchsia.
Design elements include live-edge wooden headboards individually crafted from fallen trees, crystal drawer accents, and geode artwork that pull inspiration from Sedona’s spiritual center. Turquoise table lamps, oversized sitting chairs with woven rope accents, colorful rain sticks, and artwork featuring jackalopes add a bit of whimsy.
The resort’s common spaces, also undergoing redesigns, will soon feature a living room, an outdoor lounge, lawn areas, and the 26,000-gallon infinity-edge saltwater pool. Hundred Rox restaurant is also being completely reimagined by Kimpton. Set to be unveiled later this summer, the restaurant will embody a new concept along with a new menu and name.
