Minor Hotel Group’s Anantara brand has debuted in Mozambique. Anantara Bazaruto formerly operated as the Indigo Bay Resort and Spa, which Minor Hotel Group (Anantara’s owning company) took over management of earlier this year.
Designed in harmony with the natural surroundings, the resort offers a collection of 44 villas with a choice of garden and shoreline panoramas. Made from indigenous reed, soft-fringed thatch, and wood, the rustic build is balanced by understated luxury and modern amenities.
The hotel’s four-poster beds are dressed with white mosquito drapes and the bathrooms feature sunken tubs and outdoor showers. Outside, some villas offer a living room complete with hammock, plunge pool, and veranda. The Anantara Pool Villa affords seclusion and ocean views with its private driveway and entrance and two ensuite bedrooms, as well as a pool and Jacuzzi.
Six restaurants and bars add to the hotel amenities, including Golfinho restaurant, which serves breakfast and dinner on the outdoor terrace or in the dining room that features original walls dating back to the early Portuguese traders.
Dillip Rajakarier, CEO of Minor Hotel Group, says, “The addition of Anantara Bazaruto Island as our first Anantara in Africa is a significant milestone for the brand and one that we are very excited about. We are currently exploring other opportunities in Africa, both with our partners and independently, and we are looking to further develop the Anantara brand on the continent.”
