The 184-key Andaz 5th Avenue is opening on July 5th across from the New York Public Library. Interiors by Tony Chi are designed to be both loft-like and evocative of the city’s century-old apartment residences. Specifically, he chose a muted palette and exposed pipe ceiling that channel industrial New York, along with opens spaces and residential-style furniture. Natural materials such as black- and white-washed poplar and rich gray basalt provide a counterpoint to the sheen of white lacquer finishes and marquis lighting.
Accommodations include 12-foot ceilings, double-glazed windows, and oversized bathrooms lined in polished travertine, rainfall shower heads, dual sinks, and a black porcelain footbath in the shower area. The Andaz XL Two-Bedroom Terrace Suite is 1,779 square feet, with an expansive landscaped terrace and views of both the Hudson and East rivers. Splash Suites feature a deep egg-shaped free-standing bathtub, positioned in the center of the oversized bathroom.
The hotel has a rich history. Constructed during the great era of Manhattan department stores, the building was the largest and last of the Rogers, Peet & Co. department stores, later becoming the Tommy Hilfiger global headquarters before its transformation into an Andaz.
