Andaz, Hyatt’s lifestyle brand, has made its debut in Asia with the opening of the 307-room Andaz Shanghai. Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates (KPF) took design cues from the hotel’s dynamic and distinctive surroundings in the Xintiandi neighborhood. The artwork, all by artists with a strong connection to the city, was selected around the theme of “Collective New Media Art,” referencing the hotel’s unique location, and exploring themes of past and present, new and old, deconstruction and reconstruction.

Starting at 850 square feet, guestrooms and suites showcase LED lighting on the ceiling. The lighting system allows guests to choose the color and mood of their room; oin the bathroom, where the walls resemble a roughly hewn rock face, the transparent sink and translucent bath can also be programmed to glow in different colors.
F&B options include the Andaz Lounge; Éclair, a patisserie; and Hai Pai, a four-level hub housing two restaurants, a bar, and private dining rooms. Event space comprises three meeting studios; a ballroom; and Andaz Garden Studio, opening at the end of 2011 with four event rooms and a glass pavilion surrounded by water. Other amenities include a translucent indoor pool, fitness facilities, and the yet-to-open Optime Spa.
