GB Lodging has purchased the historic 5 Beekman Street, appointing Commune Hotels and Resorts as the operator of a new Thompson Hotel that will occupy the building. Built in 1883, the structure features a 10-story atrium with ornate iron railings, glass skylight and elevators. “We will pay homage to the history and grandeur of this iconic building and combine classic and modern design to create a vibrant community that will further enliven and rejuvenate the Financial District and downtown Manhattan,” says Commune co-chairman Jason Pomeranc.
