One of the Caribbean’s iconic luxury resorts just got even better. The private-island escape Jumby Bay, a Rosewood Resort, reopened yesterday after an 18-month, $28 million renovation, adding a Rosewood Sense spa and 28 new suites.
In addition, the resort, located off the coast of Antigua, upgraded existing rooms, changed executive chefs, added new restaurants and cooking classes, and enhanced its amenities. Here’s a rundown of the key Jumby Bay upgrades:
New and renovated suites The luxe resort now offers 40 guestrooms, including 12 upgraded suites and 28 newly built ones. Decor is British Colonial-style, with vaulted ceilings, four-poster handcarved mahogany beds, and al fresco bathrooms featuring rain showers and deep soaking tubs set amid private gardens.
New estate homes Jumby Bay adds two new estate homes to the island, for a total of 33. Each 9,750-square-foot home offers classic Caribbean design, with private pools, state-of-the-art kitchens, expansive outdoor space, and use of resort services and amenities included.
New Sense Spa Rather than book in-room spa treatments, guests now have the option of visiting Sense, A Rosewood Spa, an open-air, five-suite venue inspired by the islands sugar mill ruin. Signature treatments include the rumba scrub and massage, using rum, sugar and coconut.
New amenities. A "Privileges of Privacy" menu offers couples exclusive escapes, such as private stargazing, and upon arrival guests now receive a cool signature-scented towel to refresh along with seasonal fruit juice infused with local herbs and spices.
New executive chef Chef Juan Pablo Loza moves over from Las Ventanas in Los Cabos to take over the kitchens at Jumby Bay, adding Mexican and Spanish dishes and flavors to the resort’s menus.
New restaurants and cooking classes The old Verandah has been replaced with the newly built Verandah Restaurant and Verandah Bar, which overlook the beach. The venue has also added Jumby Bay Culinary Experiences, hands-on cooking classes to be led by Chef Loza and local Antiguan chefs in the resort’s new display kitchen. The new Pool Grille bistro is located near the property’s new oceanfront infinity pool.
