Architect Mehraz Ehsani has designed the recently opened TRIBE Hotel within the Village Market shopping destination in Nairobi, Kenya. Ehsani cites Persian architecture and an understanding of African light, space, and sense of place as his primary influences for the 140-room boutique property. The low-rising structure integrates atypical angles, complemented by handmade wooden furniture, local fabrics, and artifacts.
The building, which faces north, features huge glass windows in the atrium, maximizing sunlight and warmth. The hotel’s rooms include lofts, an ambassadorial suite, presidential suite, and penthouse. A solar-heated pool, meeting space, and Epic signature restaurant round out the offerings.
