Artek has acquired fellow Finnish company Aero Design Furniture (ADF), gaining access to products designed by Ilmari Tapiovaara. The pieces will join Alvar Aalto-designed lighting classics, which represent nearly all of Artek’s international sales. The tradition-inspired style of Tapiovaara’s wooden furniture presents a softer view that contrasts with the vivid modernism of Aalto’s designs.
“This is a great opportunity to continue to develop new ideas together, and I am certain there will be many opportunities for that in both the Aalto and the Tapiovaara Collections,” says ADF owner Juhani Lemmetti. “The Artek team and the profound understanding of art, design, and culture of its owner, Proventus, gives me reason to believe that a bold vision and a sound philosophy also have commercial potential.”
