After weeks of speculation, Barry Sternlicht’s Starwood Capital Group has confirmed its plans for the ultra-luxury Baccarat Hotel & Residences New York. Bearing the name of the revered French crystal maker, the 46-story property will open at 20 West 53rd Street just off Fifth Avenue in time for Baccarat’s 250th year anniversary in 2014. Architectural firm SOM and interior designers Gilles & Boissier will craft the 114-key hotel to glow from the inside out with crystal and light.
Baccarat New York also will marry modern European glamour with architecture and design influenced by its urban location across the street from the Museum of Modern Art. Plans call for the Baccarat Spa, a fitness center, an indoor pool, a unique “B Bar” ensconced in a crystal pavilion that will be wrapped by a garden terrace, intimate meeting salons, distinctive restaurant, and a curated collection of Baccarat products for sale.
Starwood Capital is planning future Baccarat hotels for Rabat and Foshan, China; Dubai; Marrakech, and other locations in the Middle East and Asia.
