Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group has opened its second Blue Smoke outpost. The lower Manhattan barbecue joint features design by Bentel & Bentel, who has crafted a space that is at once homey and lively. The restaurant boasts wide windows overlooking Vesey Street; warm, dark wood-planked floors and wainscoting; and a series of large photographs by photographer Frank Stewart on a road trip across the U.S., including a pecan orchard, lumberyard, barbecue pit, cotton field, and a country road under a cloudy sky. In addition, the restaurant offers a private dining room and a meeting space flanked by frosted glass that permits light to come through but prevents people from seeing inside.
