SIXTY Hotels plans to reopen the Nautilus South Beach in Miami in Q4 of this year following a renovation.
“Miami Beach, with its burgeoning art scene, vibrant new districts, and increasingly stellar food, is the perfect location for our next hotel and one that has been on our radar for quite some time,” says Jason Pomeranc, co-founder of SIXTY Hotels. “South Beach is a natural fit for our clientele, who appreciate a great night out just as much as the rich sense of architectural history the hotel and its surroundings offer.”
Originally built as the Nautilus Hotel, the 251-room, oceanfront property is located in the heart of Miami’s art deco district. Designed by architect Morris Lapidus in the 1950s, the Nautilus South Beach will be renovated by Fort Lauderdale-based Caroline Giraud-Sukornyk of CG Design and Miami-based Arquitectonica, while honoring its original charm. The hotel will be updated with a restaurant, lobby lounge, events and meeting space, pool bar, and a fitness center.
To mimic a luxury beach hotel, the hotel’s public spaces have a beach vibe with nautical accents and tufted grey linen sofas, along with metallic orange leather chairs. Furthering the beach house appeal is gray concrete, glove leather, various stones, and linen chairs and sofas, reminiscent of those found in beachfront estates.
In collaboration with Jeffrey Chodorow’s China Grill Management and chefs Claude Troisgros and his son Thomas, the hotel will also reintroduce the iconic Blue Door to the Miami dining scene. The Troisgros’ will carry on their tradition of melding French technique with Brazilian ingredients. The reimagined restaurant and bar will accommodate 210 seats including an alfresco dining patio.
