Chef Jose Garces is readying for the opening of his seventh Philadelphia outlet, JG Domestic. The restaurant and bar, which will feature American-sourced artisanal food and drink, features the work of Jun Aizaki of New York-based Creme Design Collective. Live planters encircle the space, anchored by a communal table that features three living trees. Linen and plaid banquette seating surrounds butcher block tables, which are set against a “living wall” of herbs, plants, and greenery.
Custom cabinets display authentic salvaged Americana, while a large blackboard adorned with a “driving tour” map from Michigan to Philadelphia and New York marks the origins of various menu items. The “Chef’s Nook” dining room, with seating for up to 12 guests, includes views of the open kitchen. A private dining space is also part of the design.
