Lodging is about to go underground near Shanghai. The InterContinental Shimao Wonderland will be built 330 feet below the earth in an abandoned quarry, according to CNN. The luxury “groundscaper” hotel, designed by UK-based engineering firm Atkins, will have three levels above ground and 16 levels under, including an underwater restaurant. A nearly 200-foot glass curtain will mimic a waterfall next to the resort.
Opening in late 2014 or early 2015, the 380-key hotel will be part of the surrounding Shimao Shanghai Wonderland.
