citizenM has opened its third “affordable luxury” hotel in the heart of Glasgow, Scotland. The eight-story-tall property features a robust granite façade, highlighted by oversized mesh artwork by artist Alex Dordoy. Guests enter the hotel through an illuminated, double-height glazed red entrance leading to the first floor via a striking red spiral staircase.
Upstairs, the lobby houses a long bar and lounge area; check-in kiosks; living room nooks; and canteenM, the 24/7 kiosk-style cafeteria. Accenting the lobby spaces are wall-to-wall windows, as well as furnishings by Hella Jongerius, Verner Panton, Jasper Morrison, and others from Vitra, citizenM’s exclusive interior design partner.
In addition, citizenM partnered with architectural firm concrete to improve the functionality of the hotel’s 198 prefab guestrooms with an integrated bathroom, a larger closet and vanity, and built-in worktable. Accommodations also include king-size beds, wall-to-wall windows, Philips mood pads (an all-in-one device that controls the room’s electronics), and rain showers. Meanwhile, materials such as Corian, glass, and steel complement dark Zebrano wood flooring, plisse shaded lamps, vanilla-colored wallpaper, and red Vitra furniture.
