Hudson Yards, a redevelopment project on Manhattan’s West Side, is making big strides. Coach will move its headquarters to the initial tower of the Eastern Rail Yards site, occupying more than one-third of the building’s 1.7 million square feet. Construction on the building, designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates, is set to begin in mid-2012 with a completion date of 2015.
In addition, the city will break ground on Hudson Boulevard Park in early 2012. The master plan for the Railyards comprises approximately 5,000 residences in nine buildings, 6 million square feet of commercial office space, a 1-million-square foot destination retail complex, a 150-room 5-Star hotel, a unique cultural facility, and a new public school, all planned around 14 acres of public open space. Key transportation investments are underway throughout the area around Hudson Yards, including the extension of the No. 7 subway line, on schedule for a December 2013 opening.
