A historic building that once was a bank and music conservatory has opened as the Conservatorium Hotel Amsterdam. The hotel’s owner, Georgi Akirov, worked with designer Piero Lissoni to maintain the structure’s charm while updating amenities. Lissoni left the original lofty ceilings intact in almost half of the guestrooms, which have transformed into duplexes with large windows. The Concerto Suite boasts a Steinway Baby Grand piano and connects the hotel’s past with its present. Glass also serves as a major element of redesign, from the covered courtyard to the atrium.
