New York-based dash design has recently renovated the Renaissance Washington, DC Downtown Hotel. Led by principal David Ashen, the firm completed the redesign of 807 rooms-including 10 suites-and guest corridors.
The redesign’s aim was to create a boutique environment within the 900-room building, while retaining the Renaissance brand core values. American elements, including plaid, leather, and red, white, and blue hues, were employed to create a casually contemporary feel. The neutral khaki palette of the rooms includes colorful accents and furnishings inspired by 20th century-Modernism.
“Our design concept came from the idea of Washington, DC, being our nation’s hub,” says Ashen. “Therefore we focused on what was quintessentially American rather than specifically local. We wanted to create what we called ‘A New American Original,’ and took our inspiration from casual American fashion.”
Showcasing the city’s landmarks, artwork, including a collage of Washington Monuments, add local flavor throughout the hotel.
