Disney has named its under-construction Hawaiian resort Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa, Ko Olina, Hawai’i. Located on Oahu, the resort—Disney’s first outside of a theme park—will reflect the island’s history, vibrant culture, and history. In the Hawaiian language, Aulani means "the place that speaks for the great ones" or "the place that speaks with deep messages."
The resort, the first phase of which is opening in fall 2011, will be located on 21 acres of oceanfront property in the Ko Olina Resort & Marina development. The project will have 360 hotel rooms and 481 two-bedroom vacation club villas. Other plans call for multiple pools, snorkeling lagoon, river suitable for tube floating, an expansive spa, two restaurants, a 14,000-square-foot conference center, and nearly 50,000 square feet of outdoor venues. Disney has also launched a new preview website, www.DisneyAulani.com.
