Walt Disney Co. has abandoned plans for a 500-room hotel at National Harbor, a multi-use waterfront development near Washington, D.C. A Disney spokeswoman said that the timing wasn’t right for the project, but the company won’t rule out standalone hotels outside of Florida and California. The Orlando Sentinel reports that executives have promised investors a reduction in capital spending upon finishing current projects, which include Aulani, a new Hawaiian resort; two cruise ships; and park expansions, including a new theme park slated for Shanghai.
