The Alexander, a Dolce Hotel, is scheduled to debut in downtown Indianapolis in January. The 209-key luxury property is partnering with the Indianapolis Museum of Art to put more than 40 contemporary works on display in public spaces. Artist Jorge Pardo is creating a chandelier for the grand staircase leading from the first floor to the second-floor lobby area; he also is designing the Plat99 mixology cocktail lounge.
Sustainable elements will run throughout the hotel, which is targeting LEED certification. These include:
- Water-saving plumbing fixtures
- Low-energy LED lights
- Occupancy controls
- Energy-efficient appliances
- Storm water collection system
- Crushed concrete and asphalt from the former parking lot used for clean backfill and base for the foundation
- Chunks of limestone from old building foundations on the site slated for retaining walls and decorative landscaping
