Element Hotels has started a pilot program that allows guests to power their personal electronic devices as the pedal stationary bikes. At the grand opening ceremony at the Element Miami, Starwood president and CEO Frits van Paasschen, along with associates and invited guests, rode on 10 bicycles placed in bike generator stands. Their pedaling generated enough electricity to power laptops and flatscreen plasma monitors to create a “virtual ribbon cutting” on screen.
