Greek chef Michael Psilakis has opened FishTag on New York’s Upper West Side. The 90-seat restaurant, designed by Bromley and Caldari, evokes the feel of a classic parlor-style barroom accented with details such as onyx-stained floors and a mix of wood, exposed brick, and metal.
The front room houses a spacious black-and-white speckled, granite-topped counter. The wall behind the bar is exposed brick, while the opposite wall is lined floor to ceiling with natural Australian cyprus in a light sand color. Behind the bar, custom oak millwork cabinets stained in rust and gray serve as a background for the steel and glass shelving filled with glassware and spirits.
The main dining room seats 60 for dinner at wood-framed dark gray tabletops and modern sculpted dark brown wooden chairs on metal frames. Light fixtures in brushed nickel and industrial “bullet” sconces illuminate the room. In the rear right corner, a cozy Hollywood-style booth in deep gray accommodates a group of eight. Two granite-topped display tables are also part of the design.
