A warrior fortress perched atop a granite hill is transforming into a luxury resort in India’s Jaipur District. Opening in late 2013, Alila Fort Bishangarh features original elements such as six-and-a-half-feet-thick ancient walls with openings for firearms and turrets, while a new structure above and outside the old fort houses five different styles of royal suites and lavish public areas.

The resort’s individually designed 59 suites showcase indulgence framed with stunning views. Large bay windows, day beds, expansive bathrooms with footed bathtubs, and luxury bedding contribute to the look. Located within the fort itself are two specialty restaurants, a café lounge, bar and cigar room, wine cellar, ballrooms, library spa, retail, and more guest suites. Other amenities include a pool, fitness center, kids’ club, meeting rooms, and a royal banquet hall.
