Golden Gate Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas’s first casino, has wrapped up its expansion and redesign. The landmark property respects its historic roots. “The expansion and renovation of the Golden Gate preserves and enhances a Las Vegas legacy-not only this classic 106-year-old building, but the Las Vegas spirit and the mystique it embodies,” says president and co-owner Mark Brandenburg. “Throughout the renovations, our goal was clear: remain true to our vintage Vegas character and deliver an experience that is original, people-centric, and bursting with energy.”

Fourteen new suites pay tribute to Rat Packers like Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., and Dean Martin. Each features pinstriped carpeting and Art Deco accents. In addition, two penthouses encompassing the entire fifth floor reflect the image of the vintage Vegas showgirl, from custom carpeting inlaid with a feather motif to beaded chandeliers. The penthouses also include a large outdoor patio with lounge seating, a grill, wall-mounted fireplace, full wet bar, and 50-inch flatscreen TV.
On the expanded casino floor, a new high-limit gaming area is wrapped in rich colors and styling from the Roaring 20s, including fringe-lined walls inspired by flapper dresses. The vintage ‘Hotel” sign that previously adorned Golden Gate’s Main Street exterior now lights up the new lobby. Artifacts such as original 1907 gaming ledgers, an authentic model of Vegas’ first telephone, and Prohibition-era whiskey bottles found in the walls during construction are on display. The project also encompassed the restroration of the building’s original façade with the addition of a digital marquee and LED lighting representing pinstripes popular in the 1920s.
Golden Gate also incorporated green elements into the remodel, including the Gen2 elevator, which generates power as it travels down, and closed-loop geothermal wells used for refrigeration and hot water.
