Design Hotels is set to open a beach hut village, Hotel Escondido.

Opening December 1st, the hotel will include 16 upscale beach bungalows on the coast of Puerto Escondido, Mexico. Mexico-based Grupo Habita⎯⎯keynote speakers at this year’s HD Americas⎯⎯collaborated with architect Federico Rivera Río to create a modern take on traditional palapa beach huts for this property.

To honor local tradition and design, the beachfront bungalows boast minimalist and comfortable lines, all topped by authentic palapa rooftops and tropical wood floorboards. Natural light comes through louvered wooden slats with regional curios in each room. Draped canvas hammocks, slung near each hut’s private plunge pool, complete the picture.
Long known as an international surf mecca, the village of Puerto Escondido and the nearby Zicatela Beach hosts major surfing competitions on its renowned waves. A large lagoon area to the west of the town hosts fishing and bird watching enthusiasts frequently.
