The Fairmont Singapore has completed renovations of its lobby, cocktail bar, and guestrooms in the hotel’s North Tower. HBA‘s Singapore office was appointed to oversee the design and concept of the hotel’s 365 guestrooms, while EDG Interior Design + Architecture was tasked with the hotel lobby.
Largely influenced by the Straits Chinese culture-also known as Peranakan-the renovated spaces are a modern interpretation of the culture. The new hotel lobby boasts a neutral color scheme and is adorned with art pieces that reference the cosmopolitan city’s people. The focal point is a chandelier designed by Petra Dickova and created by Lasvit. Titled “Playing with Wind,” the chandelier illuminates the lobby with its 800 bohemian crystal glass balls.
In the North Tower, guestroom corridors now have a gray and dark wood color palette and are lined with local elements, such as a hanging scroll, figurines depicting the life of old Singapore, and art pieces made of local, dried foods. A bespoke patterned carpet also hints at history with motifs that were seen in old Singapore.
Also drawing inspiration from Straits Chinese culture, the guestrooms feature bespoke carpet and curtain sheers that reinterpret Peranakan lace. Plantation shutters divide the bathroom and bedroom of some of the renovated Fairmont Premier rooms, providing a nostalgic hue.
