Hilton Worldwide is making plans for a new hotel at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport that will replace the existing property. The new 455-room hotel, designed by Dutch architecture firm Mecanoo, will occupy a cube-shaped building featuring rounded edges and a diamond-shaped façade with diagonal lines. Inside, a large atrium boasting a 115-foot-high glass ceiling will feature horizontal lines of the balustrades and white elements that reflect daylight deep into the building.
HBA and Merkx+Girod will oversee the interiors, which call for contemporary Dutch design with strong, original forms and a natural color scheme. The hotel is expected to break ground later this year with a targeted opening in 2015.
