DoubleTree by Hilton has opened the DoubleTree by Hilton Dundee, Scotland. Following a $1,318,200 refurbishment, the former Landmark Hotel has become the brand’s third Scottish property and its 21st across the UK.
Set within the grounds of a converted private family residence, the building’s original classical period design and Latin inscriptions remain mostly untouched. The listed building dates back to 1870 and boasts six acres of landscaped and maintained gardens complete with an ornate Italian-style maze and fountain.
“Scotland remains one of the most popular destinations for our guests and DoubleTree by Hilton Dundee is a great addition to our fourteen-strong Scottish portfolio,” says Simon Vincent, president, EMEA, Hilton Worldwide. “The hotel was recently named Dundee Hotel of the Year at the 2013 Scottish Hotel Awards and we are delighted to be bringing it under the DoubleTree by Hilton brand at a time when Scotland is gearing up for a huge year of tourism with its hosting of the 2014 Commonwealth Games and Ryder Cup.”
Fine dining is available on site at Maze Restaurant, serving British cuisine. Built in a glass house, the venue offers views of the horticultural gardens and is slated to host weddings and functions. For meetings and other events, the hotel includes the 130-capacity Landmark Suite Conference Centre and the 30-capacity Greystanes suite, which is housed in a former private family chapel.
“Our brand values hotels which portray a real sense of individuality to guests whilst maintaining an upscale standard of accommodation and service,” says John Greenleaf, global head, DoubleTree by Hilton. “DoubleTree by Hilton Dundee showcases the splendor of the Victorian era and provides a picturesque retreat just four miles from the city center. We look forward to extending a warm welcome to our first guests.”
DoubleTree by Hilton has two further Scottish properties, with hotels operating in Dunblane and Aberdeen. The brand will also welcome its first hotel in Edinburgh later this year.
