The 80-year-old Wigwam resort in Arizona has embarked on a multimillion-dollar revitalization, expected to be completed in December. A new estate-like arrival experience along a brick road will lead to a wood-beamed archway, reflecting the character and charm of the 440-acre property’s original grand entrance. An original fireplace (built in 1918) will anchor the new lobby, which showcases historical elements along with living and lounge areas. In addition, the resort will offer more connections to the outdoors with new gardens, community courtyard, and al fresco entertainment and dining areas outfitted with firepits and fountains. Meanwhile, James Beard chef Chris Bianco will consult on the resort’s new restaurant concepts.
The existing Adobe Pool will be relocated, redesigned, and expanded into a new resort pool with separate adult and family zones. The adult pool will be lined with luxury cabanas and poolside bar, while the family zone will feature a 25-foot tower with two twisting water slides and child splash fountain water features.
Consultant Jim Smith, who has directed the revitalization of other Arizona resorts such as Royal Palms and the Ritz-Carlton, Phoenix, is leading the design team. The hotel’s new ownership, JDM Partners, is led by sports executive and businessman Jerry Colangelo.
