Palo Alto, California-based HKS Hill Glazier Studio has been selected to design a boutique hotel in Hermosa Beach, which will be one of a handful of direct beach access hotels in Southern California.

Some of HKS Hill Glazier’s coastal hotels and resorts in California include Shutters on the Beach in Santa Monica, Montage Resort & Spa in Laguna Beach, Bacara Resort & Spa and Four Seasons The Biltmore, both in Santa Barbara, and Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes. Bolour Associates and Provenance acquired the beachfront parcel in May 2013 and serve as the project’s co-developers.
“We’ve been looking for the right architectural firm that can capture the essence of Hermosa’s beach town lifestyle and bike-friendly culture. HKS Hill Glazier Studio understands that buildings represent a community. They create spaces that respect a natural site’s characteristics,” says Mark Bolour, CEO and principal of Bolour Associates.
The project design will include new restaurants and retail that the community has been seeking to attract to downtown. “We’re exploring several options that we think will provide a revitalized space that Hermosa residents and visitors alike can enjoy,” says Adam Eisenberg, director of community development for the project. “In addition, we plan to host community dialogue events during the design process, with the first meeting expected to take place in late May.”
Bashar Wali, president and principal of Provenance Hotels, says, “We’re committed to creating something that uniquely reflects the lifestyle and values of Hermosa Beach. HKS Hill Glazier designs hotels that are environmentally sustainable, and we’re confident their design will connect people with Hermosa’s natural scenic beauty and laid back vibe.”
