HKS Hill Glazier Studio has signed on to design the 33-story JW Marriott Austin convention hotel, opening in 2015. The city’s natural landscapes and free-spirited community will inform the design. “The proposed design merges the influences of the natural landscapes and local vernacular that define the Austin experience with modern form and materials of the urban context,” says Eddie Abeyta, principal designer with HKS Hill Glazier Studio. “The outdoors and connection with nature are the platform, or common ground, for the diverse people of the city to come together and celebrate this unique sense of place.”

The hotel will feature 1,012 guestrooms; 115,000 square feet of meeting and exhibition space; two F&B venues; a fitness center; and rooftop terrace including a zero-edge pool, covered cabanas, and a luxury concierge lounge. In addition, the property will target LEED Silver certification with environmental elements including low-emitting materials such as paints, coatings, and flooring systems that are certified for indoor air quality, as well as regional materials to cut down on the delivery distance.
White Lodging will serve as the hotel’s owner, developer, and operator.
