The 150-year-old Hotel Bachmair Weissach, located in the Tegernsee valley of southern Bavaria in Germany, has completed its extensive renovation. The hotel’s owner, Korbinian Kohler, aimed to capture the sense of “endless time” he felt as a boy sitting by the warm fire of cozy inns in the region, “Unfortunately, moments like this are now in short supply, and that is why I wanted to create a place in which guests could once again experience this kind of warmth and tranquility,” he notes. “I wanted this place to be modern in terms of design, a sort of cosmopolitan Tegernsee country club. Quite simply, I wanted to create a place of happiness.”

To that end, Kohler implemented locally sourced materials and fabrics, a neutral color palette, and custom handcrafted furnishings. For instance, natural curtains are made from the same fabric as the traditional Tegernsee jackets. Champagne velvet appliqués adorn bedspreads, curtains, and lampshades, providing a nod toward the more royal side of Tegernsee. Polished oak desks are reminiscent of the typical Bavarian farmhouse tables and the bedside tables of milking stools, while seating pays homage to traditional benches. The linen-covered wardrobes evoke antique steamer trunks.

Original 19th-century features, such as the breakfast pavilion’s antique sideboard and restored oak floorboards in the restaurant further showcase Tegernsee’s influence. Additional Kohler’s favorite shade of orange has been worked into bold accents throughout the property, featured in lightshades, staff uniforms, fabric trims, mirrors, and wardrobe interiors.

In the Bachmair Lounge, wood-clad walls and ceiling reference typical Bavarian design, complemented by a sleek black slate fireplace and bar studded with French glass pearls. The rustic wooden flooring features timbers sourced from a converted Russian summerhouse, while round bar tables are created from slabs of whole tree trunks. Metal table frames and velvet upholstered chairs complete the look. Additional F&B venues include the Gasthof zur Weissach restaurant, which houses five cozy parlor rooms, as well as Kreuther Fondue Stube, serving cheese, fish, and meat fondue.

In addition, relaxation is on tap at the Bachmair Spa, which includes an indoor pool, a Finnish sauna, tepidarium, ice grotto, Oriental steam bath, and Alpine hay bath.
